PPG Industries, a leading manufacturer and supplier of architectural coatings and specialty products, has launched an online database that will help architects and owners select the most energy efficient roofing color.
The PPG Cool Colors Registration Database allows users to compare hundreds of the “cool roof” coating colors that PPG offers. Cool roofs are a key factor in helping buildings reduce the need for air conditioning during warm weather, reducing overall utility costs. Cool roofs earn points towards LEED and Green Globe™ certification.
Website users can search colors by a variety of criteria:
- product code
- product name
- color description
- L*a*b* color space value
- solar reflectance
- thermal emittance (TE)
- solar reflectance index (SRI)
- Energy Star listing
- rating status as per the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC)
After selection, the online tool generates a report complete with data and color swatches. The colors chosen can be used in either new build or building retrofits.
